Canelo vs Berlanga Fight Card.

Canelo vs Berlanga Fight Card.

This weekend, we’re in for what I believe is the second-best boxing card of the year. While the Canelo Alvarez vs. Edgar Berlanga main event may not be the dream fight many fans were hoping for, the card itself is stacked with intriguing matchups that make it a can’t-miss event. The first-best card of the year, in my opinion, was Crawford vs. Madrimov, as Crawford took a huge risk moving up in weight to secure another title. In contrast, Canelo isn't taking much of a risk in this bout, staying within his comfort zone, unlike Crawford.

That said, the undercard fights are where the real excitement lies. Lara vs. Garcia promises to be a fantastic clash of styles, and Caleb Plant is making his return against an undefeated fighter in McCumby, which has all the makings of an explosive bout. Rolly Romero is also stepping back into the ring after his knockout loss, eager to prove he can bounce back.

And then, there’s Stephen Fulton, making his return after his tough loss to Naoya Inoue. Even after being stopped, Fulton remains one of the most technically skilled fighters in the game, and it’ll be thrilling to see how he rebounds. In fact, I’m expecting either the Fulton fight or the Lara vs. Garcia bout to be more exciting than the main event itself.

Why? Because I don’t think Berlanga is ready for Canelo. Don’t get me wrong—Berlanga has serious power and has made a name for himself with his knockout ability. But Canelo’s experience, skill, and power are on another level. I don’t see this fight going past 10 rounds. If Berlanga does manage to pull off a win, it will undoubtedly be the upset of the year—perhaps the biggest upset in recent boxing history.

While the spotlight is on Canelo vs. Berlanga, the real gems of this card might be the undercard matchups. But no matter how it shakes out, this weekend promises to deliver some serious action for boxing fans.
